Bringing Baby Home Workshop

Prepare your relationship for life with a baby

You’re preparing to welcome someone new into your family. Your relationship deserves preparation, too.

Having a baby can bring love, excitement, and a sense of possibility. It also changes the everyday rhythm of your partnership. Sleep becomes scarce. Responsibilities multiply. Time together looks different. Even couples with a strong relationship can find themselves feeling misunderstood, disconnected, or unsure how to ask for what they need.

You might have talked about the nursery and the birth plan, but what about how you’ll share the mental load? Handle disagreements when you’re both exhausted? Make sure each of you feels supported? Stay close while learning to be parents?

Bringing Baby Home creates space for those conversations and gives you practical skills to navigate them together.

I’m planning to offer this Gottman relationship-education workshop for expecting couples and parents of young children who want to strengthen their connection and build a parenting partnership that works for both of them.

Why prepare your relationship?

You don’t need to wait until you’re struggling to invest in your partnership.

Preparing together can help you understand each other’s expectations, talk through responsibilities, and recognize what helps each of you feel cared for. When challenges arise, you’ll have shared tools to return to and more practice approaching them as a team.

If your baby is already here, it’s still a good time to pause, reconnect, and make intentional choices about how you want family life to feel.

What you’ll learn

Through teaching and guided exercises with your partner, you’ll practice ways to:

  • Stay connected: Strengthen friendship and notice small opportunities for closeness in busy days.

  • Ask for what you need: Express needs clearly and listen to your partner with greater understanding.

  • Navigate disagreements: Approach conflict more constructively and reconnect after difficult moments.

  • Share the work of parenting: Talk openly about expectations, responsibilities, and support.

  • Make room for affection and intimacy: Explore ways to nurture closeness as your time, energy, and routines change.

  • Build your parenting partnership: Develop shared intentions for the family you’re creating.

Leave with conversations started, skills practiced, and tools you can keep using at home.

A space to focus on the two of you

The workshop includes guided learning and private exercises with your partner. You won’t be expected to share personal relationship details with the group.

The focus is your relationship and your transition to parenthood. You do not need to be experiencing relationship difficulties to participate.

Who it’s for

Couples who are expecting a baby or parenting a child under age three, whether you’re preparing for your first child or adjusting to a growing family.

All couples are welcome, including LGBTQ+ couples and unmarried partners.
